AWO Bezirksverband Unterfranken sold Geriatrische Rehaklinik Würzburg to Universitätsklinikum

AWO Bezirksverband Unterfranken, a regional welfare association, sold Geriatrische Rehaklinik Würzburg, a geriatric rehabilitation clinic, to Universitätsklinikum Würzburg, a leading university hospital in Germany.

With more than 30 locations in Lower Franconia, AWO Unterfranken and its subsidiaries cover all areas of social work with over 80 facilities and services: senior citizen facilities, outpatient care services, kindergartens and lunchtime care, open all-day schools, youth social work, advice centers for families, women or migrants, social psychiatric services, day care centers, and dormitories.

Universitätsklinikum Würzburg (UKW) is a major medical institution in Bavaria, offering a wide range of specialised healthcare services and serving as a key provider of hospital care in the region.

The sale allows AWO to ensure the long-term sustainability of geriatric care in Würzburg while securing employment for the clinic’s 193 staff members, who will transition to the UKW’s employment system. The integration of the clinic into UKW is expected to strengthen geriatric services in the region and ensure continuity of care for local patients. The UKW will take over the building and commence operations at the beginning of 2025.

“Our interaction with Clairfield was constructive and helpful, as well as always marked by respect and appreciation. Even in difficult times, we maintained a positive relationship. Together with Clairfield we have achieved an excellent result for our geriatric clinic and our association. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
— Martin Ulses, General Manager, AWO Lower Franconia

Clairfield International acted as exclusive financial advisor, in conjunction with the legal advisor Luther Lawfirm, to the seller, AWO Bezirksverband Unterfranken.
